City of Flushing Announces Kick-off of Paramedic Non-Transport
Services

Flushing, Michigan October 2, 2023 – The City of Flushing announces the start of Paramedic non-
transport Emergency Medical Services within the City beginning Monday, October 9, 2023 at
8:00 a.m., This program enables medically trained staff to reach individuals with a medical
emergency within four (4) minutes of a call to 911. “All residents expect and deserve quick response to calls for emergency care in our area. Although this solution is not perfect, and cannot address every scenario, it is the City’s best
effort to address a critical situation for our residents,” said Michelle King, City Manager.

Many residents have already benefitted from the City’s temporary policy to send Police Officers
to medical scenes, however, because of the number of calls and the resources committed to
these calls, the City could not sustain this policy and still provide the high level of Police services
the residents of Flushing expect.

Mayor Joseph Karlichek added, “On behalf of city council, we are excited to implement a first
ever public safety policy, providing paramedic non-transport services, from our fire department,
to save lives for our residents and visitors. I commend our Fire Chief, Jim Michael and Assistant
Fire Chief Jim Pieknik for their outstanding work in implementing our Paramedic Program and
look forward to providing additional investments to ensure our citizens receive the highest
quality of medical treatment and care.”

Please join us for a Ribbon Cutting event Friday October 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Flushing City Fire Department 723 East Main Street, Flushing, MI 48433.
